A Baltimore City murder defendant pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter on Feb. 27 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Charles Dorsey

Geraldine Stevenson, who is represented by defense attorney Harvey K. Maizels, accepted a guilty plea of 10 years, suspending all but four years for vehicular manslaughter in connection to the death of 63-year-old Theresa Ann Jones on the 1200 Block of W. North Avenue.

Stevenson, 62, was initially charged with vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent vehicular manslaughter, homicide by motor vehicle while intoxicated, and two counts of traffic violation in connection with an event that occurred on Dec. 5, 2021.

During the hearing, four members of  Jones’ family gave testimony saying the victim was “too tired to fight” as she lay “helplessly on the floor.” The family explained that the victim was exhausted from walking home from work and helping with her grandchildren.

Maizels admitted that he prevented Stevenson from speaking with or writing to the victim’s family to apologize for the incident.

Judge Dorsey postponed sentencing until June 5 due to an ongoing investigation of the collision.
