Jury Selection Underway in Fatal Shooting Case After Rejected Plea

Jury selection in the murder trial of Jermaine Reed, 26, is set to begin before Baltimore County Circuit Court Judge Hope Tipton.

Reed is charged with first-degree murder, as well as several firearm charges, for his alleged involvement in the Dec.18, 2025 killing of Dwaun Donte Hawkins, 43.

According to charging documents, police responded to reports of gunfire on the 2400 block of Elsinore Avenue, where they found Hawkins on the living room floor suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Hawkins later succumbed to his injuries at an area hospital.

Witnesses who were at the scene during the shooting later identified a person said to be Jermaine Reed as the suspect through a photo array. Baltimore Police Department Officers (BPD) also recovered eight .38 caliber casings and mail allegedly belonging to the defendant at the scene.

The defendant has since rejected a plea offer of life, suspending all but 60 years for first degree murder and firearm use

Jury selection is set to begin Sept. 9.
