On Jan. 29, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland postponed a trial for Wesley Lambert

Lambert, 22, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and single counts of firearm use in a felony violent crime and having a handgun in a vehicle in connection with his alleged involvement in the murder of 21-year-old Amare Burrus on Dec 7, 2022.

Due to a change in counsel, defense attorney Hunter Pruette asked for more time to prepare for trial. Pruette is taking over from Julie Shapiro, who previously represented Lambert.

Lambert’s trial has been postponed until May 7 in front of Judge John A. Howard. It is expected to last for five days.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, on Dec 7, 2022, Burrus was found on the 4200 block of Pimlico Road with a gunshot wound to his head. Lying next to him was a 9mm semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine.

Lambert became a suspect when surveillance footage was uncovered by police allegedly showing him and co-defendants Garry Morris and Darrean Fleming shooting the victim from an Acura TL after Burrus initially shot at them with the 9mm semi-automatic handgun found next to his body.
