On April 10, a homicide defendant had his reception court hearing postponed before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn, in light of the public defender’s absence.

A stand-in attorney for Donald Wright, who had recently entered his appearance in the case against defendant Myron Watson, told the court that Wright had recently received the case and was awaiting more evidence.

Wright requested the postponement on behalf of Watson.

Watson, 36, is charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person, and illegal possession of a regulated firearm in connection to an incident on May 9, 2022, on the 3000 block of East Preston Street.

According to court documents, video footage was recovered depicting Watson shooting 40-year-old victim Kennod Taylor, who was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital where he was pronounced dead several days later. Watson was then captured fleeing the scene after another vehicle pulled up alongside him and started firing into the side of his car.

Judge Phinn scheduled Watson’s trial for Oct. 10 with Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lawrence Daniels presiding.
