On March 10, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kendra Y. Ausby denied bail for a Baltimore man facing home invasion charges after being acquitted of the case’s homicide charges in 2022.

Jaesiah Neal’s defense counsel, Amanda Savage and Stephanie Salter, stated that on Oct. 28, 2022, the defendant had been acquitted of all charges except home invasion and conspiracy to commit home invasion following his trial in September.

Neal, 21, was previously charged with two counts of first-degree murder, the use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person, possession of a firearm with a felony conviction, and possession of a firearm as a minor in connection to the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Tayshawn David on Oct. 15, 2021.

According to a Baltimore Police Department (BPD) news release, on the day of the incident, officers were called to the 5100 block of Curtis Avenue for reports of a shooting. On arrival, officers found David with multiple fatal gunshots to the body.

During the hearing, defense counsel Salter said the prosecutor’s evidence did not support their theory that the defendant broke into someone’s home. She, therefore, requested that the defendant be released on home detention.

The defendant had been in jail for over 100 days, according to Salter.

The prosecutor recommends no bail due to being a danger to public safety.

His next hearing date is scheduled for July 17.
