On April 4, murder defendant Kyle Cooper received a July trial date from Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland.
Cooper, 32, is currently charged with first-degree murder, two counts of firearm use in a felony violent crime, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, having a handgun in his vehicle, having a handgun on his person and possession of a firearm with a felony conviction in connection to an August 2023 incident.
The prosecution did not have a plea offer for Cooper and his defense attorney Brandon Taylor, but told Judge Copeland that there would be one by the end of the week.
Copeland scheduled a four-day trial beginning on July 11 before Judge Althea M. Handy.
According to a Baltimore Police Department press release, on Aug. 31, 2023, officers responded to the 6100 block of Edlynne Road to a report of a male lying in the street. Once on the scene, responders found 66-year-old Eric Gill suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Medics responded to the location and pronounced Gill dead on the scene.
