Several homicide cases were scheduled for trial during a June 26 reception court hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K Copeland.
Darrien Robinson, 23, is set to be tried Oct. 26 before Judge Hope Tipton after rejecting a plea deal alongside defense attorney Jason Rodriguez. The defendant is charged with first-degree murder and multiple gun violations. Authorities believe he fatally shot Darrius Hines, 29, on Oct 15. 2025, on the 500 block of Callender Street.
Baltimore CitiWatch footage reportedly showed Hines and an unknown suspect engaging in a verbal altercation before walking towards the site of the incident. Detectives also found other footage that led them to identify Robinson as the suspect. Witnesses were also said to Robinson through a photographic array.
Defendant Devin Shadle’s trial is set to begin Dec. 4, and is expected to last about 5 days. Shadle, 23, waived his right to a speedy trial after his defense attorney, William Porter, advised him that doing so would be in his best interest. Judge Copeland noted she expects Shadle’s case will proceed at its scheduled date because parties will have sufficient time to prepare.
Shadle is charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, first-degree assault, one gun offense and multiple counts of conspiracy. Shadle is suspected to have fatally shot Davon Smallwood, 19, in the head during a Dec. 10, 2025 incident on the 1900 block of Harman Avenue.
David Whitfield, 28, is set to be tried on Nov. 30. Prior to scheduling, the state offered Whitfield a plea of life, suspending all but 60 years, which he rejected. Whitfield’s trial is expected to last six days, with testimony from about 20 witnesses. His co-defendant, 30-year-old Tyler Liggins, is set for trial in October.
Both defendants are charged with first-degree murder and assault, kidnapping and conspiracy.
During the investigation, a witness identified Whitfield as one of the two suspects involved in the July 19, 2025 death of Travon Booth, 43. Authorities believe he and Liggins repeatedly hit and stomped Booth to death at an apartment building on the 1100 block of W. Northern Parkway.
Maryland state police later recovered a pair of black latex gloves from a wooded area, bearing DNA that closely matched Whitfield’s.
