A Baltimore man charged with the fatal shooting of a gospel singer was granted a mental health competency evaluation on Sept. 29 at Baltimore City Circuit Court.

Richard Sylvester Green, 57, is charged with first-degree murder, three counts of firearm use in a violent crime, attempted first-degree murder, and first-degree assault in connection to an incident on June 10, 2020.

According to CBS Baltimore, gospel radio host Tyra Phillips Womack, 57, was found shot outside of her home on the 2400 block of Albion Avenue. She was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police identified Green, who lived on the same street, as a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant. He was then taken into custody six days later in Baltimore County without incident and later admitted to his involvement in the case.

During mental health court, Judge Gale E. Rasin ordered a competency evaluation to be conducted by the Baltimore City Circuit Court medical office.

Green is currently being held at Central Booking and is scheduled to reappear for a hearing on Oct 6.
