Attempted homicide defendant Dorian Milstred agreed to five years of probation on Feb. 7 for shooting his ex-girlfriend in 2021 rather than proceeding with a jury trial.

The 20-year-old defendant, who was 19 at the time of the incident, was facing multiple counts of attempted murder and assault as well as several weapon charges in connection to the shooting on Sept. 5, 2021. He was initially scheduled for a jury trial on Feb. 6, which was delayed due to his counsel’s absence.

Prior to the proceedings on Tuesday, the prosecution and defense attorney Donald Wright met with Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Charles Dorsey to discuss the case in the judge’s chambers. Shortly after, the prosecutor offered Milstred a plea of probation before judgment for five years for first-degree assault, which he accepted.

Under the terms of the plea, Milstred must also stay away from the victim, who the prosecutor said declined to give a victim impact statement.

The prosecution told Judge Dorsey that the incident occurred around 11:45 p.m., on the 2700 block of Atkinson Street. Milstred and the 19-year-old victim were having a verbal dispute, which led to the defendant allegedly firing multiple shots at the victim, grazing her right ear.

Milstred was arrested a short time later.
