On Sept.9, closing arguments were presented before Baltimore City Circuit Court before Judge Althea M. Handy in a non-fatal bar shooting, with the defense hotly contesting the evidence.
Aaron Mills, 43, is charged with first- and second-degree assault, firearm use in a crime of violence, assault on a law enforcement officer, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, and several other firearm and drug distribution-related offenses. The charges are in connection with a shooting that occurred on Dec. 28, 2025, at Hubcab Bar and Grill on the 6000 block of Belair Road.
Body camera footage played for jurors showed Mills being identified as the alleged shooter, assaulting an officer, and resisting arrest.
The prosecution insisted the defendant fired eight rounds from a firearm that was later recovered under an object outside of Mills’ trucking business. The defendant was allegedly prohibited from possessing a gun.
During a search of one of Mills’ trucks, officers allegedly found 43 containers of cocaine they said was intended for distribution as well as a gun and a rifle.
Jurors also heard 911 audio which described the defendant as a “black male, with a black hat and black outfit”. The prosecution alleged that the body camera footage matched the description in a 911 call, which led to Mills’ arrest.
However, defense attorney Avrohom Greenfield argued that according to Maryland law, the defendant is rightfully challenging his arrest since officers didn’t have sufficient evidence there was “probable cause” cause he committed a crime. Greenfield claims this was “the worst investigation in the whole world” and the investigative detective is a “liar” or “someone who doesn’t know how to do his job”. Greenfield speculated that under the circumstances, police might have wrongly shot his client. The defense concluded by saying the state failed to prove this case beyond a reasonable doubt.
The jury is expected to get the case shortly.
