An Owings Mills resident convicted of homicide in 2003 had a status hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kendra Y. Ausby on April 19.

Defense attorney Edie Fortuna mentioned how well his client, Jodie Hill, has been performing in his substance abuse and mental health groups. Fortuna informed the court that Hill has scheduled to earn his learner’s permit, is applying for jobs and has opened a banking account.

Hill told the judge he had more than six months left in the group home.

According to the Maryland Judiciary website, the defendant was convicted of first-degree murder and having a deadly weapon with the intent to injure and was sentenced to 20 years, nine months and 20 days in 2003.

Prior to the shooting, the defendant was allegedly seen walking around with a shotgun.

The 38-year-old defendant’s next status hearing is set for May 17 before Judge Ausby.
