The victim and a witness to an attempted murder earlier this year signed an affidavit recusing the defendant essentially denying his alleged involvement, defense attorney Rodney Gray said during his client’s bail review on Oct. 12.
Stanley Parsons is currently facing 15 charges, including multiple counts of attempted murder, assault and weapons charges, in connection to the incident on June 23. However, on Thursday, Gray informed Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer the victim and a witness “sought me out” and signed the affidavit. The affidavit states Parsons was not the suspect, Gray said.
Although admitting these were serious allegations, defense counsel asked the defendant be released on private home detention.
An assistant state’s attorney standing in for the assigned prosecutor as well as pre-trial services told the judge the defendant should continue held without bail, but neither gave arguments. Judge Schiffer agreed, noting there were no “appropriate conditions” supporting Parsons’ release.
According to court documents, a witness told Baltimore Police Department (BPD) detectives they knew Parsons and saw him chase and then shoot the victim in his left leg on the 2000 block of North Charles Street. The victim was walking in the area with his pregnant girlfriend at the time.
When police arrived at the scene later that day, they searched Parsons and his girlfriend, allegedly finding suspected cocaine on the defendant and a loaded gun inside his girlfriend’s purse. The defendant’s girlfriend told police the gun belonged to Parsons, who said he called his girlfriend and told her to bring his gun from the house.
The defendant’s next court date is scheduled for Jan. 29, 2024, according to the Maryland Judiciary website.
