Representing attempted murder defendant Marrico Bell, attorney Angela Shelton claimed in a Jan. 9 opening trial statement that Bell acted out of self defense when he shot and injured a 32-year-old man on Feb. 3, 2024.
Bell, 44, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, firearm usage in a felony or violent crime, illegal possession of ammunition and firing a gun in Baltimore City after allegedly shooting the victim near the 1500 block of Carswell Street.
“There was an altercation between Bell and the victim, but the victim was the aggressor and also under the influence of marijuana,” Shelton claimed. “Bell was just trying to defend himself.”
The prosecution called it unacceptable that Bell nearly murdered who was in his own house when the shooting occurred.
Closing statements for the trial are set for Jan. 10 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry G. Williams.
