The jury reached a not guilty verdict for 20-year-old Tyresse Flemming on Feb. 28, acquitting him of all charges.

The charges filed against him were attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony  violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of ammunition, having a handgun on his person and discharging a firearm in Baltimore City.

Flemming’s trial was before Baltimore City Court Judge Philip S. Jackson in regards to an incident on the 5000 block of East Preston Street on July 20, 2023.

According to previous reporting, the crime involved an altercation with Flemming and his girlfriend’s stepfather, where Flemming was accused of shooting at his girlfriend’s stepfather.

At trial, defense attorney John Cox emphasized the need for the jury to look at the law carefully due to the prosecution’s lack of evidence. Both sides debated who they believed to be the initial aggressor of the incident, with Cox claiming it was the girlfriend’s stepfather and the prosecutor believing it to be Flemming.
