A prosecutor did not feel “comfortable” offering an attempted murder defendant a plea deal without speaking to the victims’ families on March 1.
Defendant Zhamiel Dixon appeared in front of Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn on Wednesday to schedule the start of his trial, but prosecutors were not able to reach one of the victims’ family members to discuss the plea.
According to the Baltimore City Police Department, Dixon was arrested for allegedly kidnapping three members of the group notoriously known as the “squeegee boys” and shooting two of them, a 17-year-old and 23-year-old man, on the 2400 block of Edmondson Avenue.
Dixon was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of use of a firearm in a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person, discharging firearms and possessing a regulated illegal firearm.
Dixon, 26, who is represented by Jason Silverstein, is scheduled to appear in front of Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeannie Hong on April 18 to begin trial.
