On March 9, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Cynthia H. Jones continued a 32-year-old convicted attempted murder defendant’s motion to modify his sentence hearing due to not being comfortable with going forward without the victim being notified.

Judge Jones stated she wants the prosecutor to send an investigator to get in contact with the victims because they deserve to be present for the motion. However, if the prosecutor was unable to get into contact with the victim, she said, then she would be ready to go forward with the motion.

On Jan. 9, 2012, defendant Donte A. Gladden was sentenced to 30 years suspending all but 15 years with five years supervised probation for second-degree attempted murder, a consecutive five years for the use of a handgun in commission of a crime of violence, a concurrent five years for having a handgun on his person, and a concurrent one year for shooting and discharging an unknown caliber handgun.

According to court documents, on the day of the incident, officers were called to the 3200 block of Spaulding Avenue for reports of a shooting. On arrival, officers found the 34-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot to the head.

The victim was taken to Sinai Hospital for treatment in a stable condition.

Gladden’s hearing is set to continue on April 6.
