Murder, Shootings Tied to Kids Basketball Game Argument

Jury selection began March 24 for the trial of Cassandra McRae and Tavon Singleton, a couple accused in a deadly January 2025 triple shooting.

McRae, 37, and Singleton, 35, each face two counts of first-degree murder, four counts of attempted first-degree murder and multiple gun offenses in connection to the shooting, which left 52-year-old Antoinette Jennings dead, her son shot and a child wounded on the 5400 block of York Road.

The case centers on a violent encounter that reportedly began at a children’s basketball game. According to court documents, an altercation broke out between Jennings’ family and a woman later identified as McRae. Surveillance footage captured McRae leaving the game while making a phone call, then allegedly following the victim’s vehicle in a separate gray sedan.

The situation turned fatal when McRae reportedly approached the passenger side of Jennings’ vehicle and signaled to her accomplices.

“There they go, right there,” McRae allegedly said twice. Moments later, a male suspect opened fire into a car, which was occupied by four people. Jennings was pronounced dead at the scene, while her son was shot in the abdomen and her 11-year-old granddaughter was grazed by a projectile. The fourth passenger was left uninjured.

Investigators linked McRae and Singleton to the shooting through “pertinent digital and cellular data,” along with witness statements and extensive camera footage. Singleton faces an additional misdemeanor charge for having a handgun in a vehicle.

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Dana M. Middleton oversaw jury selection.
