A family member of 27-year-old Timothy Shearn received a subpoena to testify before Baltimore City Circuit Judge Hope Tipton on July 16. Her whereabouts remain unknown.
Shearn is charged with murder, assault, and multiple firearm violations in the murder of Deonyaye Johnson on Sept. 9, 2025 at the corner of N. Arlington Avenue and Riggs Avenue.
Johnson was allegedly identified at the scene and transported to shock trauma at the University of Maryland where he was pronounced dead.
Prior to the shooting, Shearn was having a verbal dispute with his former partner on N. Arlington Avenue. Then, Shearn allegedly reached into his backpack, displayed a gun and pointed it at her. She fled to her car, flagged down the police and alerted them of the situation.
Later that night, she returned to the corner of N. Arlington Avenue and Riggs Avenue to meet with her current partner Johnson, who traveled there using a lime bike. While she was talking to his family members , Johnson and Shearn appeared to have a verbal confrontation.
Shearn allegedly went into a residence on the 1000 block of N. Arlington Avenue, returned to the corner of N. Arlington Avenue and Riggs Avenue, shot Johnson and fled.
According to expert testimony from the assistant medical examiner who performed the autopsy on Johnson, he suffered a gunshot wound towards the back lower left of his head, a graze wound on the back of his head and a gunshot wound to his left hip.
The assistant medical examiner confirmed Johnson’s cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of his death was a homicide.
A responding detective testified that when he arrived at the scene, Johnson had already been transported to the hospital.
The residence where the shooting occurred, which is owned by Shearn’s family member who was subpoenaed, was barricaded. The residence next door was also barricaded due to officers not knowing which home Shearn was located. When a warrant was obtained and the home was searched, officers did not find Shearn inside nor any evidence he lived there.
According to CCTV footage, Shearn was allegedly seen where the shooting occurred wearing a dark shirt and light pants. The footage also captured Johnson riding a lime bike and wearing a red hat, both items were recovered at the scene.
Due to the CCTV camera’s rotation, the shooting was not captured, but the aftermath was. Another building has a Ring camera installed that potentially recorded the shooting, but detectives were unable to recover the footage from the owner.
When Shearn was arrested about a month after the shooting, live rounds were recovered that did not match the bullets killing Johnson.
The trial is set to continue throughout the week with defense attorney Brandon Mead representing Shearn.
