Attempted Murder Case Postponed for Prosecutor’s Medical Emergency 

The case of Troy Ayers, 43, was postponed  July 17 in Baltimore City Circuit Court before Judge Alan Lazerow for a medical emergency.

During the pretrial hearing, the stand-in state attorney requested that the court postpone Ayers’ case due to a serious medical afflicting the prosecutor.  After defense attorney Tony Garcia discussed the matter with Ayers, Judge Lazerow transferred the case to Judge Melissa Copeland for re-schedulng.

Ayers is being charged with several counts of attempted first degree murder including firearm possession for allegedly opening fire on a family in a vehicle on the 3700 block of Harlem Avenue on September 30, 2025. One member of the family suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to the hospital.

When questioned, the victim told detectives that the family was getting into the vehicle after putting their four-year-old sibling in the back seat when an unidentified man lifted up his shirt and started shooting at the car. The stepfather and owner of the vehicle, immediately drove the victim to the hospital.

After viewing a photo array, Ayers was identified as the alleged shooter and was arrested on October 2nd 2025. In addition to being charged, Ayers was prohibited from having a gun due to a prior incident on October 5, 2025.

The case will continue before Judge Jeannie Hong on August 20th 2026.
