There were more questions than answers in an Aug. 27 reception court hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland.
Defendant Ronald Williams, 27, will stand trial for attempted murder on Sept. 4, for an incident that occurred on March 25.
According to the statement of charges, on March 25 a detective was notified of a shooting on the block of 4100 Patterson Avenue.
The victim was standing in front of Indreni Liquors when an older model red Nissan Altima double-parked in front of the store.
The vehicle started to drive off when the suspect who was sitting on the passenger side extended his arm out of the window and discharged one bullet striking the victim in the arm. The fleeing vehicle was captured on CCTV footage traveling north eastbound on Patterson Ave before leaving the area.
A police flyer describing the suspect and the vehicle with a discolored hood led to locating the car at the 2200 block of Penrose Avenue.
After police seized the vehicle, the owner reported that on March 25 she was driving the vehicle with the suspect, a friend and her two small children in the back.
She stated that the suspect saw somebody whom he didn’t like. She stopped the vehicle and that’s when the defendant and his friend exited the vehicle, approached the victim and as she drove off, Williams reportedly pointed a firearm out of the window and fired a shot at the victim.
The defendant was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second- degree murder, first-degree assault, firearm use in the commission of felony in violent crime, handgun on person, and reckless endangerment.
Meanwhile in reception court the prosecutor didn’t offer a plea.
Defense attorney Avrohom Greenfield stated he hasn’t received any body camera footage or medical reports. All he has are two crime scene photo packets with no notes and CCTV footage.
Given the lack of available evidence, parties agreed to return to reception court on September 4.
