Wildwood Parkway Shootout Suspect Has Trial Date Postponed

On Nov. 27, Kiari Cromwell’s attorney, Jason Ott, appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn in order to postpone his client’s trial.

Cromwell, 25, is charged with firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, firearm possession with a drug conviction, illegal possession of ammunition, having a handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle and firing a gun in Baltimore City. The charges are in connection to an incident that occurred on April 12.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers responded to a report of a shooting on the 1000 block of Wildwood Parkway. The victim told investigators he was driving westbound on the parkway when another vehicle nearly ran him off the road. The victim proceeded to follow the vehicle until it stopped at the crime scene.

The victim exited his vehicle in hopes of confronting the individual when he noticed the suspect had a handgun. Then the victim discharged his own firearm, and they began shooting at each other before driving away.

The victim was not injured and had a carry permit for his firearm.

Officers located the other individual near the site of the incident whom they identified as Cromwell. He crashed his car after sustaining gunshot wounds.

Cromwell was scheduled to begin his trial in front of Judge Jeffrey M. Geller on Nov. 27, but he remains in the hospital due to the severity of his gunshot wounds.

Ott and the prosecutor agreed to reschedule the trial for April 23, 2024.
