Valiquet Avenue Attempted Murder Defendant Receives May Trial Date

On Feb. 20, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland gave attempted murder defendant Tavon Jones a May trial date.

Jones, 23, is charged with first- and second-degree attempted murder, first- and second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a handgun in his vehicle, having a loaded handgun in his vehicle, illegal possession of ammunition and firing a gun in Baltimore City in connection to a June 28, 2023, incident.

The stand-in prosecutor proposed a plea deal to Jones for attempted first-degree murder and firearm use in a felony violent crime. The offer was 30 years in prison, with 20 years suspended, leaving 10 years to serve, followed by three years of supervised probation. Additionally, a concurrent 10-year sentence was offered for the firearm charge, the first five years without the possibility of parole. Jones would also be required to register as a gun offender and avoid contact with the victim.

Jones and his defense, Bradley MacFee, declined the offer.

Judge Copeland set Jones’ trial for May 9.

Court documents show a Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officer was called to the scene of gunfire on the 5300 block of Valiquet Avenue. The incident allegedly involved Jones and the uncle of his ex-girlfriend, who was at her house to mow the lawn. After an argument and physical fight inside the house, Jones allegedly shot at the uncle from his car as he was leaving, driving his car alongside the victim’s.
