A  25-year-old homicide defendant appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland asking to postpone his trial set to begin on April 22.

Darius Savoy is represented by Roya Hanna who asked Judge Copeland for a the delay due to scheduling conflicts.

The defendant is facing two counts of first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, conspiracy to use a firearm in a felony violent crime, two counts of carrying or transporting a handgun and first-degree assault in connection to the homicide of 30-year-old Allante Alexander

The prosecutor said he was unavailable during the months of July and August and asked for a September date.

Judge Copeland told counsel that she would try to squeeze them in for a four day trial in September but expected to have trouble finding a judge on the busy court calendar.

According to a Baltimore Police Department (BPD) press release, on April 13, 2023, officers responded to a call on the 2000 block of West Lexington Street where Alexander was shot and killed.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Alexander and a woman were sitting in his vehicle when a black car pulled up next to them and opened fire. The woman was unharmed.

Surveillance footage shows Savoy allegedly getting into a black car with another individual and traveling to the scene of the crime.

Savoy is scheduled to appear back in court for his trial from Sept. 25-28. A judge has not been assigned, according to the Maryland Judiciary website.
