On Nov. 7, a defendant facing 50 counts, including first-degree murder, armed robbery, and reckless endangerment, rejected a plea offer from the prosecutor.

Donye Thompson appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn to schedule a new date for a jury trial.

Thompson’s defense attorney, James Sweeting III, told the court that his client wanted to proceed to trial instead of accepting the plea of life, suspending all but 30 years, for multiple charges relating to gang activity.

Thompson, 26, is also facing drug trafficking charges relating to the prosecution’s case against multiple co-defendants affiliated with the gang notoriously known as the “39 Babies.”

The gang is alleged by the prosecutor to have carried out multiple murders, assaults, and carjackings.

Thompson’s trial is currently scheduled for June 12, 2023.
