A 64-year-old man involved in an August 2025 shooting on N. Caroline Street is set to serve 20 years after pleading guilty to attempted murder and firearm use on June 9.
Bobbie Williams was initially charged with attempted murder, firearm use, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and multiple firearms offenses in connection to the shooting, which occurred Aug. 24, 2025 on the 800 block of N. Caroline Street. Williams was previously been convicted of second-degree assault and a third-degree sexual offense.
According to the police report, officers responded around 1:50 a.m. to multiple ShotSpotter alerts in the area of the shooting, where witnesses described a heated argument between Williams and another man. Williams then pulled out a gun and began shooting into a crowd.
The victim returned fire in self-defense, striking Williams in the right thigh. Ring camera footage in the area also showed Williams in an intoxicated state. Williams has a previous history of alcohol abuse.
Williams’ sister and fiancée were present during the hearing and gave impact statements prior to sentencing. Williams’ sister described the defendant as a brother she could count on and asked Judge Brown for consideration given Williams’ history of alcohol abuse. She also asked the court to help her brother. Despite her plea, Judge Brown upheld the agreed upon sentence and stated that Williams has to be the one to help himself.
Williams was also ordered to register as a gun offender and will be required to serve five years of supervised probation upon release.
There are no further hearings set in this case.
