On March 26, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland heard the case of 46-year old Shakeff Hatcher, represented by defense attorney Brian Thompson on an involuntary manslaughter charge.

According to a Baltimore Police Department (BPD) press release, officers were called in late at night on July 20, 2023, for an assault on the 100 block of Water Street. Officers stated that a 32-year-old man was found unresponsive at the scene and was transported to a local hospital.

Detectives believe Hatcher pushed the victim down a flight of stairs following a verbal altercation.

The prosecution told the court Tuesday that the victim had suffered a traumatic brain injury from the incident and only recently emerged from a coma. She said the man is currently in a rehabilitation facility, and can only recall his name.

The prosecutor asked for a trial date to be two-to- three weeks after an upcoming surgical procedure for the victim. Judge Copeland granted her request and set a trial date for June 28.
