Baltimore City’s Office of the Public Defender is actively working to reassign counsel to the case of 21-year-old Datwain Jackson, who is one of several suspects allegedly belonging to the “Green Team” or “39 Babies” crime gang.
Eleven suspects have been charged for their involvement in the gang, which CBS Baltimore reported is responsible for four murders and eight attempted murders. Jackson’s charges include multiple counts of first-degree murder, conspiracy to participate in a criminal gang, and various weapons charges.
On March 31, defense attorney Janine Meckler informed Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn that the office is searching for an attorney to represent Jackson without conflict given that this is a multi-co-defendant case.
Judge Phinn agreed to bring Jackson back to reception court on April 14 to discuss any updates.
