On Jan. 1, at approximately 1:22 a.m., Baltimore Police Department officers were patrolling near the 400 Block of East Baltimore Street when they heard the discharging of a firearm coming from a parking garage on the unit block of Guilford Avenue.
As officers approached, they observed a 30-year-old male, later identified as Jamal Artis, exiting the parking garage stairwell onto East Baltimore Street. Artis was stopped and searched by officers and a handgun was recovered. Artis was immediately arrested.
Officers then continued to search the garage and located a 22-year-old female victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medics transported the victim to an area hospital, and she is listed in stable condition.
Officers transported Artis to the Central Booking Intake Facility, where he was charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder and additional charges.
