During a Sept. 18 hearing, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Copeland set a Dec. 12 trial for 22-year-old Jaden Crowner regarding a Valentine’s Day shooting.
Crowner is charged with first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime and having a loaded handgun in a vehicle.
According to charging documents, on Feb. 14th, 2022, at approximately 5:33 p.m., the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) received notice of a shooting on the 3800 block of South Hanover Street.
Officers informed detectives that there were two victims who were both transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. One of the victims was fatally shot in the head–the other in the arm. Before discharge, the remaining victim gave a statement to police that he was standing in front of a store when an unknown male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt came around the corner from Washburn Avenue and began firing.
The crime lab processed the scene and collected three .32 caliber cartridge casings. Investigators also obtained CCTV footage which captured the shooting. The suspect is wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, gray and black jeans with distinctive defects, and a pair of black, yellow, and red tennis shoes. The shooter’s face is obscured but portions of his eyes, nose, and eyebrows can be observed
On March 3, 2022, Anne Arundel County detectives executed a search warrant on Crowner’s home for an unrelated homicide on February 27, 2022, at 4001 Ritchie Highway.
During the search detectives say they recovered a gray hooded sweatshirt, gray and black jeans with distinctive defects, and the pair of black, yellow, and red tennis shoes the shooter was ostensibly wearing in the surveillance footage.
A black Sharpie marker was located near the shoes, and it appeared that portions of the footwear had been drawn over. The recovered clothing likely matched that worn by the shooter in the surveillance video..
Meanwhile, on April 15, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) analysts said a microscopic comparison of the bullet casings from each murder location were likely fired by the same semi-automatic gun. firearm.
Judge Copeland explained to counsel that while Dec. 12 was set as the trial date it was still subject to change as she does not have schedules of the criminal court judges at this time.
