A new trial date was set on June 17 for the defendant in an attempted murder case after a water main break last Thursday delayed his hearing.
Davon Coleman, 25, is charged with first- and second-degree attempted murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle, having a loaded handgun in a vehicle, illegal possession of ammunition and reckless endangerment for an incident that occurred on 1700 block of Cliffview Avenue.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland scheduled the new trial dates for Aug. 27-to- 28 before Judge Yolanda A. Tanner. Coleman’s new attorney, Augustine Okeke, will defend his client at trial.
On June 14, a day after the water main break, Coleman’s previous defense attorney, Michael Cooper, complained to Judge Robert K. Taylor, Jr. that the prosecution team failed to disclose a video statement a victim made to the police about the incident.
According to the District of Maryland Court documents, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers responded to a call for shooting on Sept. 22, 2021, on the 1700 block of Cliftview Avenue. The victim stated that Coleman, who had been released from prison just days before, allegedly shot the passenger side of her car over an argument about money.
The victim was not injured. Coleman fled on foot in an unknown direction.
