Man Will Serve 35 Years for Alcohol-Motivated Shooting

A 29-year-old was sentenced to 35 years in prison for a May 2023 shooting in Baltimore City Circuit Court Oct. 11.

Per the Maryland Judiciary website, Judge Lawrence P. Fletcher-Hill sentenced Deon Hudson to 30 years, suspending all but 15 years, for attempted second-degree murder, a consecutive sentence of 20 years, suspending all but five years without the possibility of parole, for firearm use in a felony violent crime. Hudson will also serve concurrent sentences of three years for having a handgun on his person and one year for firing a gun within Baltimore City. Upon release, he will be required to serve five years of supervised probation.

Hudson was found guilty in July of the shooting on the 200 block of South Monroe Street on May 28 of last year. Defense attorney Matthew Connell emphasized the role of alcohol in the shooting. According to Connell, Hudson told Baltimore Police Department officers, “This never would’ve happened if I hadn’t been that drunk.”

The jury acquitted him of attempted first-degree murder.
