Man Sentenced for Rec Center Shooting

A 19-year-old man was sentenced to eight years in prison, suspending all but three years, for a 2023 non-fatal shooting on June 11 in Baltimore City Circuit Court.

Trevon Moore was found guilty of reckless endangerment, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a handgun within 100 yards of the public and discharging a firearm in January, with both his trial and sentencing being in front of Judge Dana M. Middleton. His charges stem from a shooting at the Roosevelt Park Recreation Center on the 1200 block of West 36th Street on Jan. 12, 2023.

The prosecution asked that Moore be sentenced for 10 years and receive three years of probation because Moore opened fire near a bunch of children and could have injured them.

Moore’s defense attorney, Lawrence Rosenberg, asked Middleton for five years in prison, suspending all but three years suspended and one year of probation because Moore didn’t hurt anybody and is still young.

Judge Middleton sentenced Moore to five years, suspending all but three years, with three years of probation for reckless endangerment, and a three-year suspended sentence for having a loaded handgun on his person, a concurrent one-year sentence for having a handgun within 100 yards of the public and another concurrent one-year sentence for discharging a firearm. Moore will also be required to register as a gun offender upon release.

Moore’s sentence starts right away. The past six months Moore spent in prison awaiting his sentencing will count as time served.
