Man Facing Up to 85 Years for Role in Federal Hill Shootout

A 34-year-old man is facing up to 85 years in prison after a jury convicted him of multiple counts in a South Baltimore shootout that occurred last April.

Dionte Joseph White was found guilty on June 12 of first-degree assault, firearm use in a felony crime of violence and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Jurors reached their verdict the same day attorneys rested their cases before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Hope Tipton.

Authorities say the shooting occurred minutes after 2 a.m. on April 27, 2025 and left a 32-year-old man with a graze wound on the 1500 block of S. Hanover Street. According to prosecutors, White fired 16 shots during the incident.

White was arrested over half a year after the incident on Nov. 14, 2025, and charged with attempted second-degree murder.

At trial, prosecutors argued surveillance footage, license plate detection technology and physical evidence tied White to the shooting. White had driven a gold Honda Odyssey to the area of the scene that was captured by camera attached to a café on Cross Street.

Shortly after, White was seen at an area Crown Gas Station with an unidentified person, arguing with passengers who were seated in a nearby black Acura. Gunfire erupted from the Acura, which fled the scene. White and the unidentified person gave chase in the Honda. White then fired eight shots at a grey Infiniti bearing a similar appearance to the Acura before firing eight more.

Detectives traced the Honda’s location and linked it to White via license plate reader technology and a plastic tarp taped to its rear driver side window. Inside it, they recovered DJ equipment that White claimed he had been using for work until 5 a.m. that night.

White reportedly gave detectives conflicting accounts that he later attributed to intoxication, claiming he had been drinking earlier the morning of the incident at Nobles Bar and Grill in Federal Hill.

In a June 15 release from the Baltimore State’s Attorney Office, State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates commended prosecutors for their efforts in securing the conviction. “This conviction sends a clear message that reckless acts of retaliatory gun violence will not be tolerated in Baltimore City,” Bates said. “This individual chose to escalate a situation with complete disregard for human life. It is only by sheer luck that no one was killed.”

According to the release, White faces up to 70 years in prison for his role in the incident, along with an additional 15 years for violating probation in a separate case.

His sentencing is scheduled to proceed Sept. 17 before Judge Tipton.
