Jury Shortage Increases Delay in Attempted Murder Trial

A Baltimore man whose trial was set to begin earlier this week faced a second postponement on July 9 due to an ongoing shortage of jurors.

Thursday’s postponement follows one the day prior. Both postponements were caused by problems sending out jury summons, according to court staff.

The defendant in the case, 43-year-old Eddie Murphy is charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault and multiple firearm offenses in connection to a March 29, 2025 shooting of a woman inside a car.

According to charging documents, police responded to Johns Hopkins Hospital after the victim suffered a gunshot wound to her face. Murphy allegedly shot the victim after an argument inside a vehicle on the 1100 block of N. Fulton Avenue

The victim was shown an array of photographs and identified a person said to be Murphy as the shooter.

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kendra Ausby was set to preside over jury selection today. Given the juror shortage, the case was returned to Judge Melissa Copeland in reception court.

Murphy’s trial is now set to begin on Sept. 2.
