On April 2, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland scheduled a lJune jury trial for Marcus Lilly, 42, who was accused of exchanging gunfire with co-defendant Shyheem Thompson, 24, last October in the Saint Joseph’s neighborhood.

Lilly and Thompson are both charged with three counts each of attempted first- and second-degree murder and first-degree assault, as well as several firearm-related charges. Lilly, who was arrested first while Thompson remained on the run, faces additional charges for illegally possessing a handgun and ammunition.

The incident occurred Oct. 16, 2024, in the 3500 block of W. Caton Avenue. Responding officers located an unrelated 53-year-old victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the left rear and foot and transported him to an area hospital. They later learned the victim was shot in the crossfire, but were unable to determine a motive for the exchange.

Evidence recovered from the scene included three .40-caliber shell casings. Witness statements and surveillance footage from an area store helped investigators identify Lilly and Thompson as the case’s primary suspects.

Lilly’s jury trial is set for June 30 before Judge Copeland. Thompson has yet to receive a trial date, but will appear before Judge Copeland April 17 for an initial appearance hearing.
