Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland set a July jury trial date for murder defendant Amir C. Barnes-Henderson, 26, on April 4.
Henderson will appear before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Althea M. Handy on July 28 to stand trial for the Nov. 21, 2024 fatal shooting of 34-year-old Gary Lee Matthews outside One Stop Liquor Shop in the 4900 block of Frankford Avenue.
He is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, and illegal possession of a regulated firearm. He also faces a second offense for having a loaded handgun in his person.
According to charging documents, Henderson allegedly shot and killed Matthews following a dispute outside the liquor store. Responding Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers located Matthews lying on his back, unresponsive and bleeding profusely.
Investigators recovered two 9mm casings, four live 9mm casings, and 19 unidentified casings from the scene. The prosecution noted plans to submit body-worn camera footage into evidence for testimony.
