Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Michael A. DiPietro sentenced Riccardo Demond King, 44, to 10 years in prison on April 22 for the fatal shooting of Marvin Wooten, 47, in 2024.
King previously was found guilty on Feb. 3 of manslaughter and six gun violations following a bench trial. The charge had been reduced from first-degree murder.
Judge DiPietro ruled that King will serve the first five years of the manslaughter sentence without the possibility of parole, with credit for time served dating back to Nov. 7, 2024. He also imposed a 20-year sentence for the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony violent crime, five years for firearm possession by a prohibited person, and one year for illegal possession of ammunition. All sentences will run concurrent to the manslaughter term.
The case stemmed from an Oct. 27, 2024 confrontation involving King’s pregnant fiancée. Defense attorney Donald Wright argued at trial that Wooten aggressively approached the woman, banged on her vehicle window and threatened to kill her. Prosecutors contended King escalated the encounter by confronting Wooten and shooting him as Wooten raised his hands and attempted to back away.
Also scheduled before Judge DiPietro on April 22 was the sentencing of Michael Reed, 22, who was convicted March 19 of attempted first-degree murder, reckless endangerment and three gun charges in connection to a July shooting outside Cash USA Pawn Shop on the 1200 block of W. North Avenue. Reed’s case was postponed after correctional staff failed to transport him to the courthouse.
During the delay, a woman identified as Reed’s girlfriend alerted prosecutors that he was on the phone while scheduled to appear. Reed previously dismissed counsel and represented himself at trial.
The sentencing of Angelo Riley Jr., 27, was also postponed due to scheduling conflicts. Riley was found guilty on Feb. 26 of attempted murder, first-degree assault and armed robbery in connection to a Jan. 31 shooting at a McDonald’s drive-thru window. His sentencing was reset for May 18 before Judge DiPietro.
