Judge Extends Deadline for E. 28th Street Murder Defendant’s Competency Evaluation

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin granted a second extension for a first-degree murder defendant’s competency evaluation during mental health court on April 12.

Stand-in attorney Sharon Bogins waived defendant Jamal Smith’s appearance and informed the court he had not been admitted into the hospital.

Smith, 43, faces charges of first-degree murder and intent to injure with a deadly weapon in connection to the fatal stabbing of Robert Parker on the 1500 block of E. 28th Street on Jan. 27, 2019.

Judge Rasin postponed the hearing until May 10 to allow the defendant additional time to be admitted into the hospital.
