Defendant Found Not Guilty in McCulloh Street Murder

Maurice Jones, 29, was found not guilty of the murder of 23-year-old Montez Barrett on July 11.  After final testimonies and closing arguments were delivered on Friday, the jury deliberated and found Jones not guilty of first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime and two counts of firearm possession with a prior felony conviction.  No verdict was rendered for four other charges, including having a handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle, having a loaded handgun on his person and having a loaded handgun in a vehicle.  Previously, a forensic scientist from the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) testified that none of theek fingerprints recovered from the scene matched those of Jones. Not Guilty: Defendant in Decades-Old Homicide Case Denied 4th Motion to Modify Sentence

A Baltimore resident who pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for a shortened sentence more than two decades ago was denied a motion to modify his sentence on July 28 at the Baltimore City Circuit Court.  According to a detective’s court statement, three men were at a bus stop around midnight on June 2, 1998, when they heard gunshots coming from down the street.
