A 31-year-old Baltimore man charged with second-degree murder had his trial scheduled for May 2023 on Aug. 3 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn

Keith Davis Jr. is charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm during a violent crime for allegedly killing a Pimlico Racecourse security guard Kevin Jones on June 7, 2015. Davis has already been tried for murder four times.

During court proceedings, counsel informed the court that the defendant has two upcoming motions, one is an outstanding motion on Aug. 12 and the other is an expert hearing motion in March 2023. Counsel also came to an agreement on a trial date.

Davis was represented by defense attorney Deborah Levi.

According to The Intercept, in June 2015 officers chased Davis into a parking garage, believing him to be a suspect in an armed robbery. The defendant then allegedly pointed an object at officers who discharged 44 rounds at him, shooting him three times. Davis’ case first caused public outcry from activists in 2015 when he was charged.

Davis’ next hearing is scheduled for Aug. 12 with Judge John S. Nugent presiding.
