Keith Davis Jr. turned down a 15-year prison sentence on Dec. 14 when he was offered a plea in connection to a six-year-old murder and an alleged jailhouse fight in 2020.
The 30-year-old Reisterstown resident is scheduled for his fifth trial next year, following two hung juries and two overturned convictions in the murder case.
During Tuesday’s reception court proceedings, the prosecution offered Davis 50 years, suspending all but 15, for charges in both cases. Defense attorney Deborah Levi rejected the offer.
The defendant’s fifth trial is scheduled for May 16, 2022; however, the Maryland Judiciary website states he will appear in court on May 4, 2022, for the murder case.
Davis’ case first caused public outcry from activists in 2015 when he was charged with fatally shooting Pimlico Security guard Kevin Jones who was on his way to work. According to The Intercept, officers chased Davis into a parking garage, believing him to be a suspect in an armed robbery. The defendant then allegedly pointed a gun at officers who discharged 44 rounds at him, shooting him three times.
He is currently charged with second-degree murder and firearm use in a felony violent crime.
In May 2021, Davis was also charged with attempted murder, assault, and firearm-related charges in a separate case for an alleged jailhouse fight in June 2020.
