Homicide defendant Marcus Harris was ruled mentally competent to stand trial on April 17 by Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin during a mental health court hearing.

Harris, 32, is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime and having a handgun on his person in connection to the murder of 34-year-old Courtney Campbell on the 3800 block of West Belvedere Avenue on March 25, 2022.

According to a Baltimore Police Department press release, Campbell was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was transported to Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly later. A witness identified Harris as the shooter, which led to his arrest.

Harris was ruled incompetent to stand trial by Judge Rasin on April 12, 2023, and was ordered to be committed into a facility as soon as a bed was available.

Harris will now leave the facility and return back to prison while he awaits his trial. He is represented by Brian McDaniel
