A homicide defendant continued to maintain his innocence during his sentencing in Baltimore City Circuit Court on Oct. 11.
Darries Sommerville, 30, was sentenced to life in prison for the first-degree murder of 29-year-old Trevon Williams, consecutive with 10 years for firearm use in a felony violent crime and carrying a handgun, the first five years without the possibility of parole, and another consecutive five years for firearm possession with a felony conviction. The total sentence is life plus 15 years, the first five years without the possibility of parole.
The murder happened near the 3500 block of Mannasota Avenue on July 31, 2022, according to charging documents.
“I feel as though I wasn’t heard during my trial. I am not a bad person or a murderer,” Sommerville said before his sentence was imposed.
Sommerville’s defense attorney Natalie Finegar also spoke, asking for a lighter sentence because Sommerville wanted to see his four children often.
Somerville’s sentence was given by Judge Dana M. Middleton.
