On March 31, a Baltimore man facing an assault charge had a pending plea offer of seven years presented to him before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.
During the court proceeding on Thursday, Judge Phinn listened as the prosecutor presented a plea of seven years for first-degree assault and a concurrent five years without the possibility of parole for the use of a firearm during a violent crime.
Michael Brunswick and his defense attorney Shomari Taylor did not accept or deny the plea offer. Taylor also requests to have the case reset because his client has a violation of probation that needs to be dealt with.
Brunswick, 38, is charged with first and second-degree assault, use of a firearm during a violent crime, having a handgun on his person, possession of a firearm with a felony conviction, having a loaded handgun on his person, and illegal possession of a regulated firearm in connection to an incident on Oct. 18, 2021.
According to court documents, on the day of the incident, officers were called to the 700 block of N. Fulton Avenue for reports of a shooting. On arrival, officers found the defendant sitting on the toilet, semi-unconscious, with his head slumped down, talking to the police.
Judge Phinn granted the defense counsel’s request.
Brunswick’s next hearing is scheduled for April 21.
