At a pretrial hearing on Sept. 10, the defense rejected a plea offer to serve 25 years in prison with 15 years suspended for aggravated assault. The case was heard in reception court before Baltimore City Circuit Judge Melissa Copeland.
Raiquan McLean, 30, is charged with first degree assault, second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony or crime of violence, dangerous weapon intent/injure, reckless endangerment, discharge of a firearm within Baltimore City, and a crime of violence against a pregnant woman. .
According to the charging documents, Baltimore Police responded to a residence on the 1300 block of Cleveland Street on May 7 for an assault in progress.
The pregnant victim told police that the defendant allegedly strangled her during an argument and she became unconscious. McLean, according to the police report, later pointed a handgun at her stomach and threatened to shoot her before firing one round into the air.
A nearby CCTV camera reportedly captured McLean holding a firearm and threatening the victim. Investigators later said they recovered the gun, ammunition, and a shell casing from the residence.
The victim told police that she was two months pregnant with McLean’s child at the time of the incident. She was medically evaluated but didn’t go to the hospital and had no visible injuries from the incident.
The trial is set to begin on November 16 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Cynthia H. Jones.
