On Dec. 7, defendant Dwaun Hawkins appeared in reception court in front of Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer facing four counts of attempted first-degree murder and four counts of attempted second-degree murder.

Hawkins, 41, faces a total of 27 charges, including four counts of attempted first- and second-degree murder, four counts of first-degree assault, five counts of second-degree assault,  four counts of firearm use in a felony violent crime, four counts of reckless endangerment, having a handgun on his person and firing a gun within Baltimore City limits in connection to an incident that occurred on Aug. 10.

Defense attorney Amanda Savage stood in for Jason Rodriguez, who was recently assigned to the case. The assistant state’s attorney had a plea offer prepared, but did not discuss it because Rodriguez had just been assigned to the case.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Hawkins is charged in connection to a non-fatal shooting that occurred on the 2400 block of Elsinore Avenue, where he allegedly shot at his ex-girlfriend’s grandchildren and punched one repeatedly in the face.

Judge Schiffer continued the hearing to Dec. 20, when Rodriguez will be able to advise his client on the plea offer.
