On March 7 Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland ordered counsel to return March 25 to schedule a jury trial for Dominic Felder, 34.

Fender is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, firearm possession during a felony crime of violence, and having a handgun on his person in connection to the Oct. 2, 2024, fatal shooting of Tavin Cooper, 20.

According to charging documents Baltimore City Police Department (BPD) responded to the 2500 block of McHenry Street after receiving multiple ShotSpotter alerts. Officers located Cooper suffering from gunshot wounds to the head. Cooper was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives further analyzed camera footage from around the area and obtained witnesses, expected to testify in court when Cooper’s case reaches the jury trial phase, who were able to identify Felder as the individual who shot and killed Cooper.

The prosecutor said she couldn’t schedule “homicide trials on top of homicide trials.” She requested further time to meet with witnesses and discuss scheduling.

The prosecutor said she plans to make a plea offer upon completion of discovery.

“I hear you, Miss, but here we are,” said Judge Copeland.

Due to scheduling difficulties between the prosecution and defense attorney John Cox, Judge Copeland agreed to discuss scheduling for Felder’s trial at a later date.
