A Baltimore man convicted of murder was denied bail on Jan. 13 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer

Defendant Christopher Rather, was found guilty on July 15, 2019, using a deadly weapon with intent to injure and second-degree murder in connection to the death of 20-year-old Jasmine Pierce-Morris on June 12, 2018.

According to court documents, on the day of the incident officers were called to the 2400 block of Westfield Avenue, the Reginald F. Lewis football field for reports of an unconscious person. On arrival, officers found an unidentified female victim later identified as Pierce-Morris in the kneeling position on bleachers with her head facing down in a pool of blood.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by medics.

Rather’s defense counsel Koryn High informed Judge Schiffer she had attempted to contact the Baltimore City Circuit Court for a retrial several times, noting that her defendant has sat in prison for months.

She attests that she believes further imprisonment would not be good for him and requests that her client be released on home detention because he has no prior record.
