On Jan. 3, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland scheduled an attempted murder trial for a 32-year-old defendant.

Obadiah Malone is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, reckless endangerment, firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, possession of firearms in a controlled dangerous substance offense, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun in his vehicle and discharging firearms in connection to an October 2022 incident.

The stand-in prosecutor offered Malone a plea deal for 90 years, suspending all but 30 years, with five years of probation for attempted first-degree murder; a consecutive five years without the possibility of parole for firearm use in a felony violent crime; and a consecutive 10 years for having a loaded handgun on his person. He rejected it.

Counsel returned to reception court Wednesday to reschedule Malone’s trial after it was postponed in December 2023 due to defense attorney Brad MacFee being ill.

Judge Copeland slated Malone’s five-day trial to begin before Judge Alan C. Lazerow on March 25.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department officers responded to the 1900 block of Braddish Avenue on Oct. 22, 2022, where they found five shell casings and blood. The victim took himself to a local hospital, where he received treatment for four gunshot wounds. A witness identified Malone as the shooter from surveillance footage shown to them by police.
