Baltimore Witness data reveals April was another month of falling homicide numbers. However, monthly non-fatal shootings rose slightly to 44 from March’s 32, according to shootings reported by the police.

The Western District had more than double the shootings this month, totaling 14, a steep increase from the five shootings the district reported for the two previous months. One of the victims in the Western District was a 7-year-old girl, who was shot in a crossfire at Mondawmin Mall.

The Northern and Southern districts both had six non-fatal shootings. One of the Northern District shootings resulted from a domestic dispute on the 600 block of Homestead Avenue. Officers from the Baltimore Police Department apprehended a person of interest in connection to the incident.

The Southwest District saw five non-fatal shootings. Five of the nine police districts had less than five non-fatal shootings. The Southeast District had four; the Northwest District had three; the Eastern and Central districts had two each and the Northeast District had a single shooting.

April had 11 reported homicides citywide — the lowest monthly total for the year so far.

The Southeast District had the highest concentration of homicides in the city in April with three.

The Northern and Northwestern districts both had two homicides each. In the Northern District’s Roland Park neighborhood, a 77-year-old man died after suffering from apparent lacerations. BPD arrested Patrick Cromwell on the scene.

Four police districts all had single instances of homicides, including the Southern, Eastern, Western and Central districts. In the Central District, the month began with the loss of 17-year-old Devron Tyner. A 19-year-old Baltimore County man turned himself into BPD a week after Tyner’s death.

The Northeastern and Southwestern districts had zero reported homicides compared two and four homicides in March, respectively.
